Animal jigsaw puzzles
Animal jigsaw puzzles have a natural way in: the creature itself. A giraffe, a red panda or a hedgehog gives you a strong shape to build outward from, and the pieces carrying an eye, an ear or a paw are easy to spot in the pile. That makes these a good place to start if you are new to jigsaws or solving with children. The collection runs from elephants and zebras at the waterhole to koalas, lynx and seals, with a few of the app’s own painted farmyard scenes among them.

Turn the usual advice round and ignore the border at first: assemble the animal, then push outward from its outline into the grass and sky around it, which is where these actually get difficult. At 24 or 48 pieces a child places something within the first minute; at 200 and up, fur becomes the real challenge, and following the direction it grows is the way through.
Wildlife puzzles by difficulty
The quickest solves are close portraits where the animal fills most of the frame: almost every piece shows part of a face or body, and the background is a narrow strip. Animals photographed in long grass, among leaves or against water are the slow ones, because the habitat takes over and the pieces start to look alike. Painted animals fall between — the brushwork gives each region its own texture. For a family solve, choose a portrait at 24 or 48 pieces; for a long one, choose an animal in its landscape at 200 or more.

Common questions
Are animal jigsaw puzzles good for kids?
They are the best place for children to start. An animal is recognisable from a single piece — an eye, an ear, a paw — so a young solver places something quickly. Try 24 or 48 pieces first.
How many pieces should an animal jigsaw puzzle have?
For children, 24 to 48 pieces. For adults, 100 to 200 pieces is a comfortable solve, because the animal falls into place quickly and the real work is the background around it.
Are there animal jigsaw puzzles for adults?
Yes. Cut any animal puzzle to 200, 300 or 500 pieces and the fur, feathers and habitat around it become a proper adult solve. The same picture at 24 pieces suits a child.
Which animal puzzles are hardest?
Animals shown small in a big habitat — a deer in a forest, a bird among reeds. The animal is quickly done, and the rest is grass, leaves or water with few landmarks. Spotted and striped coats are also harder than plain ones at high piece counts.
Are the animal pictures real photographs?
Most are photographs; some are paintings and illustrations made for the Jigsaw Puzzles app. The collection facts on this page show how many of each there are.
