How to solve it

Fur is the one hard part. Long-haired dogs and fluffy kittens turn into a field of similar pieces at higher counts, so sort by the direction the fur lies and by light and shadow, not just colour. Do the eyes and nose first — they anchor everything — then work outward along the ears and the outline of the body before you touch the background.
